Bureau of Fire Safety

Recent Monitoring Visit (State Audit)

The Bureau of Fire Safety is responsible to enforce the State Fire Code according to state regulations. How the Bureau of Fire Safety is operated is regulated by the Department of Community Affairs Bureau of Fire Safety. Local fire safety bureaus are randomly audited by the State Division of Fire Safety to ensure the fire code is being enforced as required. After an audit is conducted a report is submitted to the local bureau specifying deficiencies and the changes necessary to take place. In extreme cases the State Division of Fire Safety has the authority to remove the local bureau and enforce the fire code themselves. There was a random audit of the Chatham Borough Bureau of Fire Safety recently. The audit was a positive experience and identified minor changes that need to take place. All required changes are in the process of being made. Following is the audit report on the Chatham Borough Bureau of Fire Safety.
