Registration of Commercial Occupancies
|
| All commercial occupancies are required to be registered either by the Division of Fire Safety as a Life Hazard Use occupancy or by the Borough of Chatham as a Non-Life Hazard Use property.
Life Hazard Use buildings have been required to be registered with the Division of Fire Safety since the mid 1980’s. The registration of Non Life Hazard use business is new to the Borough of Chatham and will be effective in 2004. This procedure was recommended by the Division of Fire Safety at a recent state audit conducted in 2003. A Non-Life Hazard use occupancy is any occupancy not classified according to the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code as a Life Hazard Use occupancy.
